The inside of the netbook is also blue, but the blue there has more of a metallic sort, probably to prevent the accumulation of fingerprints.

Another reason that I love the Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2-Inch Mini Laptop is its 10-inch screen. Personally I think an 8-inch screen will be too small for me so I opt to get a slightly bigger netbook. The screen has up to 250 nits in brightness and a 1024 x 600 resolution. It also has an anti-reflection surface to provide a better viewing experience.

Pros: I bought this netbook about 2 months ago after debating between a few different ones. I eventually decided on the Samsung because I have had great experiences with their products. Several other models that I tested in stores felt cheap to me and had keyboards that were difficult to use.

The keyboard is great. I type pretty fast, and haven’t had a problem with it at all (I also have very tiny fingers). The trackpad that people have complained about really isn’t that bad. It’s a little bit small, but you get used to it. The scroll bar on the side of it is great, as are the two finger commands you can do with it.
I upgraded to a 2gb memory a few days after receiving the netbook. It was a very easy thing to do, and makes the netbook run just as fast as a regular computer.
This thing also weighs nothing! I carry it nearly everywhere with me.
Cons: The glossy finish shows fingerprints easily. Also, the speakers are a bit quiet. It works well for listening to music as a background noise, but if I want to watch a tv show or movie online, I need to plug in headphones in order to hear it well.

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE Mini laptop is by far the best mini laptop out there. It is one of the first netbooks to use the Intel Atom N280 CPU, which delivers slightly better performance than the processors used in most netbooks. With up to 9.5 hours of battery life, the 1000HE enables you to bring internet and multimedia wherever you go, without a power cord. Or even more if you are willing to sacrifice some performance. With 1 GB of RAM, a 160 GB hard drive, an excellent 10.1-inch display and a keyboard that draws compliments from most reviewers, few netbooks are as capable.

The screen display itself is easy on the eye. The colors are vibrant and backlight levels bright. Viewing angles also score highly on the ASUS 1000HE Mini Laptop. The only downside is the low resolution, but this is a general downfall for most netbooks, and not the 1000HE in particular.

The battery life is amazing on this mini laptop. You can get an amazing life span of 9.5 hours, that’s crazy. So you’ll never have to worry about running out of battery any time soon. In our standard video playback battery drain test, the system ran for 6 hours and 21 minutes, which is an extremely impressive number, slightly edging out the Acer Aspire One, and more than an hour better than the HP Mini 2140.

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE has a never before seen multi touch pad. You are probably wondering what the hell that is. Well I’ll tell you, it simply lets you use two fingers on the touch pad to allow easy use. So it makes it simple to scroll or zoom, it’s a very nifty function! It comes in handy because the keyboard is smaller so you don’t have to worry about smashing multiple buttons at once. Or fooling around with the mouse to get where you want, just touch and scroll.

The keyboard is the biggest physical difference from previous 10-inch Asus mini laptop. The new flat-topped keys are widely spaced, which is similar to what you’d find on a laptop from Sony or Apple. It’s a much-improved typing experience, and tied with the HP Mini 1000 as our favorite Netbook keyboard. Also notable: important keys, such as the right Shift key, have been relocated to a more logical position than on earlier Eee PC keyboards.

The good:
Excellent battery life; improved keyboard; competitively priced.

The bad:
Slightly faster Intel Atom CPU fails to impress; other Netbook-makers have shown more innovation.

ASUS have certainly made some improvements with the Eee PC 1000HE mini laptop, particularly in terms of the keyboard quality with better spacing. The battery life is pretty amazing and has leapt above many other netbooks of similar price. The 1000HE is an affordable choice and one that has some good advantages.

Unfortunately all three units only ship with 1GB of DDR2 memory. The good news is that you can remove the memory door on the bottom of the chassis and swap it out for a 2GB DDR2 200-pin SODIMM in under 2 minutes. Amazon offers the Crucial 667 & 800MHz modules for under $27. I installed the 800MHz module (CT25664AC800) since it offers more headroom and will step down to a lower FSB if needed. The 667MHz module should clock past its rated speed, but if your module doesn’t then it could lead to instability. I’d recommend running a Prime95 “Blend” torture test for 12-24 hrs to make sure your system is stable.

Now that I’ve provided my $.02 on memory I’ll briefly touch bases on the Eee Super Hybrid Engine utility. It lets users overclock or underclock their Eee PC’s to boost performance or provide better battery life depending on their immediate requirements.

One of the best features of this tiny little machine is its design. I only waited this long to get my hands on a netbook because most of the netbooks in the market before the Acer Aspire One looks like a toy more like a computer.
