Unfortunately all three units only ship with 1GB of DDR2 memory. The good news is that you can remove the memory door on the bottom of the chassis and swap it out for a 2GB DDR2 200-pin SODIMM in under 2 minutes. Amazon offers the Crucial 667 & 800MHz modules for under $27. I installed the 800MHz module (CT25664AC800) since it offers more headroom and will step down to a lower FSB if needed. The 667MHz module should clock past its rated speed, but if your module doesn’t then it could lead to instability. I’d recommend running a Prime95 “Blend” torture test for 12-24 hrs to make sure your system is stable.

One of the best features of this tiny little machine is its design. I only waited this long to get my hands on a netbook because most of the netbooks in the market before the Acer Aspire One looks like a toy more like a computer. The Good: It is tiny, portable, and looks really good. The screen displays well and it picks up wireless signals fine.

The Bad: The biggest thing I saw was that it was really easy to make the little spirally thing pop up when using the touch pad, so a USB mouse is something to definitely consider buying along with it.

Pros: It boots fast, it’s very lightweight, true 6 hour battery life running a optical mouse and a sprint modem. The only accessory I purchased (not from Newegg because they didn’t carry one) was a 12v to 19v cigarette lighter adapter… so much better than using an inverter! The processor is fast enough that I can run Firefox with 6 or 8 tabs open and run virtual machines while playing 24bit/96khz FLAC music. A true multitasking marvel for less than 4 skins.

Cons: AHCI mode on by default, had to change to Legacy mode to install XP Pro. Not really a con, but I don’t have a external floppy for F6 drivers. Initially the touchpad is quirky, however I love the scroll circle gesture that continues to scroll long pages by making a circle motion. Tweaked the sensitivity and it’s great now. Wish it had 1280×720 resolution, though. It was so cheap I don’t really care, besides, I can run 1024×768 and it pans on the screen.
